A pre-budget survey conducted across India in 2021, showed that over 75 percent of the participants were in favor of the government reducing its spending on expensive projects such as the revamping of the Central Vista and introducing the bullet train during the pandemic. The proposal aimed to redirect government funds to the social sector in fiscal year 2021 so as to safeguard the interests of the marginalized sections of society.
