In 2020, the COVID-19 crisis appears to have accelerated this trend as bank branches temporarily closed and customers were told to limit contacts with people. As a result, in the United States, 13 percent of bank customers signed up for their banks' mobile banking services and 15 percent enrolled in online banking.
