Share of informal care providers in the United Kingdom in 2022/23, by care recipient
Some informal carers who look after multiple people living outside their household might not be included in the count under certain conditions. This happens when an informal carer takes care of multiple individuals within the same category of care recipients outside their household (excluding parents) and does not care for anyone else outside their household.
Each "Care recipient" category includes informal carers who care for at least one individual in that category.Â
In this analysis, sandwich carers are defined as individuals aged 16 to 70 who: (a) are adults with a child in their benefit unit and/or care for a child within their household; and (b) also care for an adult relative. Carers may be categorized as both sandwich carers and as carers for other care recipient groups.
