In 2022/23, regardless of gender, most informal care providers in the United Kingdom were full-time economically active. During that year, 50 percent of men who provide informal care were employed full-time, as were 34 percent of women. However, roughly one out of four informal carers were retired during this period.

Other economically inactive includes students, people who are either looking after family or home, permanently sick or disabled, or temporarily sick or disabled.
