VAR (video assistant referee) is a source of constant debate among soccer fans across the world. While the use of technology can be useful to determine whether the ball has crossed the goal-line, its application by referees to determine fouls and offsides remains controversial. During a November 2020 survey in the UK, 23 percent of respondents stated that VAR made soccer much less exciting, while only seven percent believed that it made games much more exciting.
