Agents are commercial entities that offer financial products and services on behalf of traditional banks. The agency banking model was rolled out in 2010 by the Central Bank of Kenya, and it allowed banks to extend their network without the need to increase the number of branches. Transactions undertaken through bank agents in Kenya accumulated roughly 13 billion U.S. dollars in 2022.
