In 2021, the production volume of farmed walking catfish, or locally known as lele, in Indonesia amounted to over one million metric tons. Catfish is the most widely produced fish in Indonesia, and it is mostly cooked as pecel lele, an affordable deep-fried catfish dish popular among the locals.
