In 2020, employment in the industry sector was at its highest in North Africa in comparison to the other areas of the continent. The sector accounted for nearly 25 percent of total employment in the northern region. Southern Africa followed, with employment in industry representing some 17 percent of total employment. The share was at its lowest in East Africa. In this region, only 11 percent of the total employment was in the industry sector.
