Monthly number of Pix keys in Brazil 2021-2023, by type
Pix had more than 613 key registrations in May 2023, most of them being random generated keys or "chaves aleatórias". These alphanumeric codes are generated automatically by the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) and handed out to users. An other option is that bank users can opt to use their personal identification numbers from the Natural Persons Register (or CPF, in Portuguese). Note that each bank user is allowed to create more than one Pix key. Pix had over 150 million users - including both private as well as business accounts - over the course of 2023.
