As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic disrupted normal travel in 2020, several countries started to discuss the introduction of COVID-19 travel passports in 2021, aiming to facilitate travel during the health crisis while minimizing the risk of spreading the virus. These passes would be digital or paper certificates issued to travelers who had been vaccinated against COVID-19, recently tested negative, or recovered from a COVID-19 infection. According to a March 2021 study, 87 percent of surveyed travel consumers worldwide would support mandatory COVID-19 travel passports for international travel. Meanwhile, 60 percent of the survey sample would back this initiative for domestic travel.
