In 2023, around 17.7 thousand students were awarded their doctoral degrees in South Korea, which was comparable to the previous year. While the number of doctoral graduates has steadily increased in recent years, the total number of graduates who have been awarded master's as well as doctoral degrees amounted to slightly over one hundred thousand.
