In 2023, the Game Awards ceremony reached its highest number of live stream viewers, with 118 million people watching the event across multiple platforms and networks worldwide. The event, which is one of the biggest award shows of the game industry, has experienced a positive growth rate in terms of global audience engagement during the measured period. In 2020, the number of viewers reportedly grew of 84 percent year-over-year, and almost of 103 percent when compared to audience numbers for 2018.
The global audience growth trajectory of the Game Awards stands in contrast to the fluctuating numbers of Academy Awards viewers as the number of Americans who watched the Academy Awards ceremony in 2021 was the lowest registered yet from which the annual awards show has only just started to recover.
