Among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the highest rate of testing related to COVID-19 in June 2020 was in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at about 253 tests per one thousand population. The negative supply and demand shocks caused by the pandemic and the drop in oil prices decreased the fiscal revenues of the region and weakened their external balances.
