In 2023, attendance at leading art museums worldwide showed strong signs of recovery after the dramatic impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. That year, the number of visitors to the Louvre in Paris, the most visited art museum worldwide, was just eight percent lower than in 2019. By contrast, the National Gallery in London recorded the highest decline in visitors from 2019 to 2023 among the selected museums, with a 48 percent drop in attendance.
