In 2020, the shipment index of nondurable consumer goods in Japan reached 96.7 points, reaching the lowest value since 2014. The highest shipment index within the surveyed period was recorded in 2016, when it increased by almost one point compared to the base year 2015.
Shipment index of nondurable consumer goods in Japan from 2013 to 2020
The indices are compiled monthly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as indicators to show trends in shipments. Using 2015 as the base year, the Laspeyres-type formula was adopted for the calculations.
