A survey conducted in August 2020 among 300 consumers living in Macao showed that six out of ten interviewees believed that a cashless society would save them all the hassles with cash. Other main benefits included greater environmental friendliness, greater efficiency, and greater hygiene. Meanwhile, about only one-fourth of the respondents stated that a non-cash society would be beneficial because it lowered risk of theft.
