A survey conducted in 2020 implied that cash remained the most preferred payment method in Macao, despite suffering the most drastic decline in popularity among the three surveyed regions, including Hong Kong and Macao, in comparison with 2019. Among cashless payment methods, credit, debit, and prepaid cards slightly surpassed contactless cards in terms of preference. Consumers in Macao also preferred card-funded to non-card-funded mobile in-store payments.
