The findings of a 2020 survey indicated an increase in usage of overseas websites and apps among consumers in Hong Kong and Macao. Roughly one out of four respondents from these regions reported increased usage of such foreign platforms for online shopping. On the other hand, there was a net decrease in overseas online shopping among Taiwan users, as 30 percent of the respondents from Taiwan decreased their usage of overseas websites and apps.

According to the source, the survey was conducted with 1,600 consumers living in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
For Hong Kong and Taiwan, the surveys were done using online access panels, whereas in Macao, interviews were conducted face-to-face, via street intercepts.
