COVID-19: effect on the UK sporting event attendance 2020, by sport
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 hit the sports industry hard - many professional leagues across the globe suspended their seasons and hundreds of thousands of jobs were put at risk as public sporting events across the world were cancelled. Analysis suggests that within the United Kingdom the vast majority of attendances occurred between January 1 and March 15, before government restrictions were first introduced which then resulted in a substantial reduction with football receiving the greatest number of attendees with 13 million.
