Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs all started their companies before the age of 25, but these are exceptions. The average age of founders in the United States when they launched their startups was 41.8 years as of 2018. Founders of the highest growth startups were older than the overall average. Founders of startups with patented technology tended to be several years older than those backed by venture capital.
