Part of the pre-game spectacle of most sporting events in the United States is the playing of the national anthem. During a survey in the United States in February 2021, some 61 percent of Baby boomer respondents stated that it was very important that professional sports organizations in the U.S. continued to play the national anthem prior to competitions. However, this figure fell to just 25 percent among Gen Z respondents.
