In fiscal year 2020, over 8.5 million tons of vegetables were traded at wholesale markets in Japan. This represented a decrease from about 9.7 million tons in fiscal 2011. The share of vegetables distributed through wholesale markets declined steadily in recent years, reaching a decade low in fiscal 2019.
