Trading value of central wholesale markets in Japan FY 2012-2021
In fiscal year 2021, the transaction value of central wholesale markets in Japan amounted to around 3.6 trillion Japanese yen, a decrease from close to four trillion yen in fiscal 2011.
Central wholesale markets refer to wholesale markets operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) in Japan. One of the most successful central markets was the Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, which was the largest wholesale market for fish and seafood in the country prior to its closure and relocation.
