Global freshwater withdrawals for agriculture, industry and domestic uses have increased increased from 2014 to 2019, when water extractions reached almost four trillion cubic meters. However, withdrawals experienced a slight decrease of 0.6 percent in 2020 most probably caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect in the global economy.
