In 2022, the expenditure budget of the government of Ghana reached approximately 135.6 billion Ghanaian cedis (GHS) - around 20.3 billion U.S. dollars. This was higher than the 2021 expenditure outturn of roughly 108 billion GHS - around 16.1 billion U.S. dollars. Interest payments and employee compensation constituted the highest expenditure allocated by the government for the year 2022, reaching approximately 37.4 million GHS and 35.8 million GHS, respectively - around 5.6 million and 5.3 million U.S. dollars, respectively.
Furthermore, coronavirus (COVID-19) related spending reached 11.2 billion Ghanaian cedis (1.7 billion U.S. dollars) in 2020 as part of the government's attempts to control the spread of the virus and the impact of the outbreak.
