When the parents of French children between the ages of 8 and 17 were asked if there children had created their first social media account alone or with the help of someone else when they did it for the first time, the majority of the parents (66 percent) of children aged 8 to 9 reported that they had done it with the help of an adult. Thus, the youngest are more supervised by adults for their first time creating a profile on social media. When children themselves were asked the same question, the majority of children aged 10 to 17 reported having done it with the help of an adult.
