Chile's GDP energy intensity has remained more or less stable in recent years, and stood at 650 barrels of oil equivalent per million U.S. dollars of GDP in 2021. In the period of consideration, the Andean country's annual final energy consumption has averaged some 670 barrels of oil equivalent per million U.S. dollars of GDP.

According to the source, the energy intensity of GDP shows the relation between the total amount of energy consumed and the GDP of a country. A low ratio indicates that less energy is used to produce a unit of product and as this ratio increases, the amount of energy required to produce a monetary unit of economic production increases.
