A large of majority of refrigerator compressors sold globally in 2019 were of the rotary type, with more than 130 million units sold in China. The source adds that the rotary compressor markets grows faster than any other type of compressor. This is different from the United States, where scroll compressors - a compressor that works in a circular motion, as opposed to up-and-down motions - were a more popular choice in HVAC-R systems. In 2019, more than eight million scroll compressors were sold in the country.
