In France, traditions surrounding food are both numerous and varied. One example of this is the "goûter": a light afternoon meal between lunch and dinner, often had around four o'clock, and consisting mostly of sweet food. This afternoon snack time is largely targeted towards children, four o'clock being the time around which they usually finish their school day.
Among the leading categories of this market, industrial pastry products are significant: for example, the sales of industrial sliced brioche products amounted to 178 million euros in 2019.
