The COVID-19 pandemic has made the task of providing children in Mexico with quality education more challenging than it already was before the outbreak. To make distance learning work, in addition to teachers, parents, and principals, other people have had to support students in this new educational format.
According to an online survey carried out in the country in June 2020, although the majority of elementary and lower secondary students were supported by their parents or tutors while doing their homework, around one third of them were also, or instead, helped by a sibling. On average one third of lower secondary school students were supported by classmates and friends, while the same was true for less than five percent of elementary school students.
