The Algerian budget balance was expected to be negatively affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In the worst-case scenario, with the assumption that the pandemic continues until December 2020, it was estimated that the budget deficit could worsen to -17 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020 and -15.7 percent of GDP in 2021.
