In 2019, the total number of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Algeria amounted to nearly 1.2 million. The majority was operating in the services sector, constituting approximately 51 percent of the total number of SMEs in the country. Moreover, a large number of companies were engaging in the handicrafts and construction industries, exceeding 274 thousand and 190 thousand, respectively.
