2020 was a particularly tragic year in terms of the number of disappearances of illegal immigrants en route to Spain. The Canary Islands were the area where the most people disappeared, with a total of 748, followed by the Levante area, with a total of 165. In total, 1,080 people trying to reach the shores of the Mediterranean country that year were lost.
