In 2022, the number of immigrants that arrived illegally in Spain by land was 24 percent higher than the previous year. In contrast, the number of immigrants arriving illegally in the country from 2019 to 2020 was around 72.3 percent lower.

*This figure does not include arrivals that took place on May 17 and 18 of 2021, when it is estimated that thousands of migrants crossed the border to Ceuta due to a diplomatic incident between Spain and Morocco, which led the later to relax its border control in retaliation.
