According to a survey by Rakuten Insight on gym membership in China in 2020, around 56 percent of respondents aged 25 to 34 years replied that they went to the gym several times a week. Around 17 percent of gym members aged 55 years and more said they rarely went to the gym.

The survey was conducted among 138 respondents aged between 16 and 24 years, 270 respondents aged between 25 and 34 years, 154 respondents aged between 35 and 44 years, 57 respondent aged between 45 and 54 years, 12 respondents aged 55 years or above.
