During the first months of national lockdowns imposed by governments to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, foot traffic at airports in Europe declined dramatically. Compared to February 2020, foot traffic at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport amounted to only 19,797 in April 2020, an 87 percent decrease. During the second wave of the coronavirus, foot traffic at airports declined again. In August 2020, foot traffic at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport amounted to 36,164.

The analysis was built on the mobile location data provided in an aggregated, raw format by Predicio. The company sourced GDPR & CCPA-compliant mobile location data directly from SDK integrations with mobile apps. It was gathered from a large variety of differently themed apps indicating that the analysis covered a diverse group to ensure the reliability and representativeness of the findings.
