In 2023/24, around 9,000 boys and almost 5,400 girls attended school kindergartens (Schulkindergarten) in Germany. German school kindergartens are school education establishments categorized under preschools. They are attended by children who have to attend school, but are not yet of school age. School kindergartens are often attached to primary or special education schools.

Figures exclude Bavaria, since in Bavaria, according to the Kindergarten Act, school kindergartens do not belong to the school sector, but to the kindergarten sector.
Figures until 2018 are based on earlier editions of the publication.
