Hydrogen demand in the United States is projected to reach up to 73 million metric tons by 2050, considering an ambitious deployment scenario. In the ambitious scenario outlook, hydrogen demand will be largely driven by its use as transportation fuel. Transportation fuel consumption could be as high as 27 million metric tons per year, should hydrogen be promoted as an economic growth driver on a federal level.

** Other uses includes synthetic jet fuel and ammonia as fuel for shipping, assuming 20% of jet fuel could be met by synthetic fuel and 20% of marine bunker fuel by ammonia.
