In 2019, the average coal extraction in PGG mines in Poland amounted to nearly 1.98 million tons. The largest output was generated by the Ziemowit mine, which the Polish government plans to close in 2037. The least amount of hard coal was extracted at the Wujek mine.
According to the source, an agreement between the Polish government and the mining trade unions was signed on September 25, 2020. The agreement develops a long-term strategy for closing all the mines belonging to the Polish Mining Group (PGG) until 2049. This process foresees leaving the most productive plants with relatively high output at least until 2035 and closing mines where output is lower due to depleted deposits.
