Animal populations worldwide have fallen an average of 73 percent from 1970 to 2020. The most dramatic decline has been experienced in Latin America and the Caribbean, where the Living Planet Index (LPI) dropped by 95 percent in the past five decades.
Biodiversity around the world is under threat from human activities such as changes in land use. Humankind's impact on climate change is also having an effect on these delicate ecosystems.
