In Brazil, Colombia and Costa Rica, trademark-intensive economic sectors accounted for 50 percent of the countries' imports in 2019. In Argentina, the share stood at 23 percent. In Latin America, Brazil was the country with most trademark applications and registrations in 2018.

The source defines an economic sector as trademark intensive when:
- the number of annual registered trademarks per employee in the sector is higher than the average ratio corresponding to the whole economy,
- the number of annual registered trademarks per unit of sales in the sector is higher than the average ratio corresponding to the whole economy.
