In fiscal year 2018, the export volume of craft beer manufactured by microbreweries in Japan amounted to 1,619 kiloliters, an increase from just over one thousand kiloliters in fiscal 2015. Due to the high costs incurred through liquor exports, microbreweries distribute their products predominantly in the domestic market.

*'Craft beer' refers to beverages produced and distributed by microbreweries. Microbreweries in this case indicate manufacturers of beer and low-malt beer/sparkling liquor (happoshu). Including corporations with a capital of less than 300 million Japanese yen as well as corporations and individuals with less than 300 employees.
Excluding the five major breweries Asahi Breweries, Suntory Beer, Sapporo Breweries, Kirin Brewery, and Orion Breweries.
