The construction of the Dakota Access pipeline had a better reception among respondents identifying more as Republicans. According to a 2017 survey, 77 percent of Republicans were in favor of the project, compared to 20 percent of Democratic respondents.
The Dakota Access pipeline project transports oil from the Bakken shale oil region in North Dakota through the Midwest to Illinois.
