According to a survey conducted in November 2019 about diversity in the workplace, around 23 percent of Japanese respondents felt that the number of companies in their industry supporting initiatives for LGBT individuals in their workplace was increasing. However, the majority of respondents did not notice an increase in companies taking initiative.
The acronym LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and has been used since the 1990s. It is an umbrella term for individuals identifying as non-heterosexual or non-cisgender, with the latter meaning that the individual's gender identity does not match their sex assigned at birth.
