For the 2018/2019 season, the total cereal production in Tanzania amounted to roughly 10 million metric tons. Maize was the main crop, accounting for approximately 5.7 million metric tons. The cereal plays an important role in the country in terms of food security. Maize production is mostly consumed nationally, with a small percentage being exported.
