As of December 2021, natural gas pipeline Nova Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) had the highest capacity among all Canadian pipelines, at some 941 million cubic meters per day. Of these petroleum and natural gas pipelines, the first eight are used for natural gas transportation, while the last two are used for oil and liquids. Pipeline transportation is used as a long-distance transportation method to move liquid or gas products from production or extraction sites to refineries and later to end consumers.
