In 2021, the number of tourists in Portugal's Southernmost region amounted to 2.73 million, growing by 37.2 percent versus the previous year. Despite this recovery, the tourism volume in the Algarve had still a long way to go before reaching pre-pandemic levels. In 2022, 4.8 million tourists visited the region, which is a figure alike pre-pandemic values.
