From the Atacama desert, all the way through the Central Valley, and up to the Austral region, Chile's variety of landscapes and geographical features make for an ideal environment for the production of wine. Out of a total of 194 thousand hectares of vineyard surface area in the country, 137 thousand were cultivated with vitis vinifera as of December 2018. Nearly 48 thousand hectares of vines were occupied by table grapes, whereas more than nine thousand were vines destined to pisco production.
