The production of avocado in South Africa reached approximately 114.5 thousand metric tons in 2018/19, up from roughly 86.1 thousand metric tons in the previous period. From 2000/01, avocados production increased in the country. However, possibly due to unfortunate weather conditions and to avocados being a delicate fruit, some major drops can be noticed in 2003/04, 2009/10, and 2016/17 with reductions of 26.1 percent, 33.2 percent, and 11.6 percent, respectively. South African's avocado industry is focused on exports, essentially intended for the European market.
