According to a 2019 survey of schools across the globe, the large majority of them have been engaged in social media for marketing purposes for at least one year. In fact, close to 60 percent of studied schools said they were using social media marketing for four to eight years as of 2019, while 22 percent said they have been doing so for more than eight years.

The survey was conducted among predominantly non-government schools in the U.S., England, Canada, South Africa and Australia; 70% of schools surveyed were combined primary and secondary schools, and 55% of schools surveyed were co-ed.
